Home security remains a top concern and priority for many, especially for those who share living spaces with others or travel often. For this reason, supplemental locks and security gadgets have been created to give users peace of mind. However, many of those options can put a sizable dent in shoppers’ pockets.
Amazon shoppers and TikTok users have since found an affordable solution in a top-rated device aptly titled Addalock, with some even deeming it a “life savior.”

Addalock, described as “the original portable door lock,” adds an extra layer of safety, security and privacy to your space.
The pocket-sized item can be used at home (or taken during travel) and is said to be particularly ideal for apartment living, hotel stays, student housing, school safety procedures and lockdowns. The product’s description added that it is also “great if you are staying at an AirBnB or any other short term rental.”
While some other lock devices can be a hassle to configure and set up, Addalock installs in seconds.
As outlined in a simple guideline shared by the brand, it only takes a few short steps to get Addalock up and running.
First, insert the back of the handle into your door’s lock latch to test for fit. Then, open the door widely enough to insert the claws into the Addalock strike plate. Once the claws are securely in place, close the door and the device will be held in position. And that’s it! The Addalock is now installed. Simply tuck the red tag on the side of the latch so it doesn’t hang, and go about your day.
Boasting over 2,000 reviews on Amazon and an overall customer rating of 4.4 stars, Addalock is clearly a shopper-favorite. One five-star reviewer even dubbed it the “best purchase I ever made.”
“I want everyone to know this really works and was the most satisfying purchase I ever made,” the shopper wrote. “I was worried about getting what I paid for and if it was going to be durable, but I did and it was!”
Another five-star reviewer added that they “highly recommend” Addalock “for anyone in an apartment.”
“This fits perfectly on my front door. It was tested when the maintenance man at my building showed up earlier than expected,” the shopper explained. “He knocked and before I could get to the door, he was already trying to open the door and could not.”
Shoppers expressed some minor gripes with the device, however. One shared, “it can take some force to use on some doors”. While another said that the Addalock isn’t as light as it appears and “is a serious weight investment.” However, these critiques didn’t appear to be serious setbacks for either reviewer.
