This Sectional Solved My Couch-as-a-Cat-Scratching-Post Problem — And It’s on Sale for Black Friday
If you have a cat, you know that investing in quality furniture is always a gamble. Try as you may, they will almost always find a way to leave their mark — literally. So when I finally got a grown-up apartment and wanted an upgrade to my $300 Zinus loveseat, I knew I would have to choose something that could (hopefully) resist my cats’ best efforts to tear it to shreds.
After careful consideration, I went with the three-seat Floyd Sofa with chaise attachment in Lunar Grey, and having owned the couch for two years now — and since adding another furry friend to my family — I can confidently say this couch is cat-proof. Here’s what makes it so wonderful.
The slip cover is an anti-stain wonder.
Let me be clear: My cats are fully clawed. One is an 18-pound, half Maine Coon, and the other is orange (if you know, you know). And they have no reservations when it comes to sinking their claws into my most precious items.
But even after two years of biscuit-making, shedding, and zoomies, the couch still looks practically new. I think the real savior has been the slip-cover material. It is a polyester-nylon mix, coated with short-chain fluorocarbon-based treatment for stain resistance. This does mean that you won’t want to throw the covers in the washing machine, as it can remove the coating, but luckily it stays much cleaner than an uncoated fabric, and is easy to spruce up with a good vacuum and spot clean.
Because we have the gray cover, it very well may hide stains better than a lighter color, but even when it’s taken spills of hot sauce, coffee, and chocolate (here I blame the boyfriend, not the cats), they’ve scrubbed out with ease every time.
And while I’m not sure if it’s the tight knit of the fabric or the coating that keeps the murder mittens at bay, I’m pleased to say the fabric still has no visible pulls, tears, or snags.
The moveable chaise makes reconfiguration easy.
The couch is available in a couple of different variations, including a two- or three-seater and the option to have a chaise. The best part about opting for the chaise, like I did, is that it is moveable, so you can switch from one side of your couch to the other in a matter of minutes. While it does have a bolt to keep it in place, I’ve left it off (mostly out of laziness) and because it is so heavy, it never moves around from under the pillow topper.
The cushions are comfy enough for a good couch nap.
Purchasing a couch online can be a huge gamble — particularly if you have not seen and sat on it in person. My biggest concern with this one was that it wouldn’t be comfortable enough. Thankfully, I was wrong.
This couch is slightly on the firmer side, but it feels supportive and keeps its shape while still being comfortable enough for a midday nap. It is just wide enough for me to lounge on it lengthwise, and if you want some extra space, you can easily remove the back cushions for some more wiggle room.
