The Secret to a Truly Fabulous Wedding Is in the Little Details

"My passion for paper, stationery, and accessories is how I began my career," says Mindy Weiss, the event planner extraordinaire responsible for orchestrating the weddings of Paris Hilton and Carter Reum, Hailey and Justin Bieber, and Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, not to mention just about every party the Kardashians throw. Which makes her latest collaboration with Minted Weddings—a little black book slash marketplace featuring creations, from invitation designs to silverware, made by independent artists—a perfect fit. "It was such an easy decision," she says.

Having a roster of A-list clientele means Weiss is more than well-versed in throwing the type of celebration in which every single detail is carefully considered, down to the minutiae (monogrammed cake knives, anyone?). And as Minted's first-ever Weddings Tastemaker, she has curated a collection of stationery, decor, and essentials, all sourced from the site's community of craftspeople. T&C consulted Weiss for some of her tried and true tips for transforming a wedding into a truly exquisite affair.

What are some of the crucial components that help a wedding achieve that next-level wow factor?

It's so important to keep your design elements elevated: weighted paper, a custom design, a signature color or color combination, matching accessories that you can carry throughout all of your printed items, from save-the-dates, to seating cards and gift tags, to your thank-you notes.

What little touches do you always incorporate into celebrations?

Whether it's a monogram or designs like hummingbirds or flowers, we try to bring them into paper products, or onto a dance floor decal, or as an unexpected surprise, like custom guest towels in the restrooms. The colors you have chosen can also be brought into the tablecloths and napkins—and of course a colored water glass is a lovely detail.

Any other design details you're loving lately?

One of my new obsessions is the beautiful colors of candles offered by Minted. They add so much to the table. And I've started experimenting with unique place card holders, which also make for nice keepsakes. As your guests look for their table number it should be beautiful—and something they will notice for sure.

What trends are you seeing for 2023?

Color! It's everywhere. Why not step out of your comfort zone and add (my favorite) green to your story? It's a color that you can bring in from leaves and flowers to tabletop and linens. I never get tired of it.
