A Second 'Yellowstone' Spinoff Is in the Works: Here's Everything We Know About the New Show

From House Beautiful

  • Two Yellowstone spinoffs, Y:1883 and 6666, are coming to television.

  • Both shows will air on Paramount+, a new streaming service.

Yellowstone fans, rejoice! There's lots of exciting news as we wait for season 4 of 2020's top-rated cable show. Viewers of the Super Bowl were treated to a teaser for a Yellowstone prequel called Y:1883, which will introduce fans to the origins of the Dutton family empire. And now Paramount+ has announced that a second spinoff, 6666 (working title), will also air on the new streaming service.

Taylor Sheridan, the creator of the Yellowstone universe, said in a video posted on Twitter, “I was always fascinated when I came up with the story of Yellowstone about how do we make it bigger and expand it."

When will 6666 premiere?

Paramount+ has not announced a release date for either of the Yellowstone spinoff shows. The trailer for Y:1883 promises it will air in 2021, but no such information has been given about 6666, so we might have to wait until next year. But fear not! Season 4 of Yellowstone is expected this summer, and you can always rewatch seasons 1-3 on Peacock.

What will 6666 be about?

Unlike Yellowstone, this new show will take place at a ranch in Texas known as the 6666. Paramount+ revealed these details in a February 24, 2021, press release: "Founded when Comanches still ruled West Texas, no ranch in America is more steeped in the history of the West than the 6666. Still operating as it did two centuries before, and encompassing an entire county, the 6666 is where the rule of law and the laws of nature merge in a place where the most dangerous thing one does is the next thing…The 6666 is synonymous with the merciless endeavor to raise the finest horses and livestock in the world, and ultimately where world class cowboys are born and made."

It's not a lot to go on, but it's enough to get us excited!

Y:1883 takes place more than a century in the past, so we're not expecting to see any familiar faces on that Yellowstone spinoff, but it's not out of the question that some current favorites from the Dutton ranch could star on 6666. Paramount+ has not made any casting announcements for 6666, but Outsider reports that ranch hands Ryan Bingham and Jefferson White will reprise their roles as Walker and Jimmy Hurdstrom.

How can I watch 6666?

The new show will stream exclusively on the new Paramount+ streaming service, which launched on March 4. The service, formerly known as CBS: All Access, will include shows from CBS, BET, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, and more, as well as original content. The price is $5.99 a month for limited commercials, or $9.99 a month for no commercials.
