It feels like yesterday we were just being introduced to Sam (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky (Sebastian Stan)'s latest adventure in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. But alas, six episodes later and here we are at the end of season 1 already.

As for what's next, that of course remains uncertain as Marvel fans shift their attention to the upcoming Disney+ series Loki on June 11. Even though viewers might assume that Marvel would be quick to create more Falcon and the Winter Soldier episodes given all the buzz surrounding season 1, it doesn't sound like a second installment is a given at this point.

Wait, so will there be The Falcon and Winter Soldier season 2?

So far, Marvel has not formally announced plans to continue this particular storyline involving Bucky, Sam, Cap (Wyatt Russell) and Zemo (Daniel Brühl).

Sebastian himself told Collider recently that he hadn't heard anything from Marvel boss Kevin Feige about a second season — but then again, given how secretive Marvel is, that doesn't necessarily surprise the actor. But if offered the chance, Sebastian made it clear that he'd be totally down to film more episodes.

Recalling a chat he had with Kevin, Sebastian told the outlet, "I got on the phone with him just to catch up, and I was saying to him, 'Dude, you could f--king tell me to go swim under[water], I'll do anything.' It doesn't matter. Or if this is it, my heart is just as big."

That said, Marvel's latest Emmy submission move makes us think a second season is a definite possibility. As noted by IndieWire.com, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be submitted as a drama series at this year's Emmys as opposed to WandaVision, which will run under the Limited or Anthology Series categories. This distinction hints that Marvel is leaving the door open for a second installment.

"We’ve definitely kicked around ideas because we always like to keep thinking about where things can go, but we also, frankly, in the crush of the pandemic, we’re just trying to finish the show and make sure it got out in a timely matter," executive producer Nate Moore said.

We have a hard time believing this will be the last time we see Bucky or any of the Falcon and the Winter Soldier cast in action. Just like how WandaVisison leads into the upcoming second Doctor Strange movie, we're sure these characters will appear in some capacity in a future Marvel project. After all, there's really no such thing as total closure when it comes to the MCU.
