Vikings Valhalla season 3 will be the show's last

Vikings: Valhalla fans, be ready: the second season of the show dropped on 12th January, meaning viewers now have eight more episodes to binge-watch. But will there be a Vikings: Valhalla season 3? Here's everything you need to know, including the cast, potential plots and release date...

Just to recap, the show is a sequel to the Prime Video series, Vikings, which ran from 2013 to 2020. Netflix's version is set 100 years after the events of the original, and documents the beginning of the end of the Viking Age.

Vikings: Valhalla season 3 confirmation

Back in March 2022 when the second season was confirmed, the series was also officially renewed for a third, too. WAHOO.

Vikings: Valhalla season 3 release date speculation

Currently, the season three release date has not yet been announced. However, back in June, it was reported that filming had officially begun for the third instalment. So, while fans await the next eight eps - which were filmed in County Wicklow, Ireland, as is season three - at least there's confirmation that it's in production.

Plus, with season one dropping last Feb, and the new series coming out around the same time a year later, we can only anticipate that the turnaround will be similar. So mark January 2024 in your diary for potentially more episodes.

Vikings: Valhalla season 3 cast

The cast of Vikings: Valhalla season 3 will be fairly similar to season two:

  • Sam Corlett as Leif Eriksson

  • Frida Gustavsson as Freydís Eiríksdóttir

  • Leo Suter as Harald Sigurdsson.

  • Bradley James as Harekr, the ruler of a legendary Viking settlement Jómsborg

There will also be a couple of new characters joining the Vikings: Valhalla line up for season 3:

  • The Boys star, Goran Visnjic will portray Erik the Red, the Viking father of Leif and Freydis. His storyline will reportedly explore his character who was exiled to Greenland for committing crimes in Norway and Iceland.

  • A new character called Maniakes, played by Florian Munteanu, a fearless Byzantine general who answers only to the Emir.

Vikings: Valhalla season 3 will be the show's last

In an interview with Netflix's Tudum in October 2023, co-creator and executive producer Jeb Stuart revealed the show was coming to its natural conclusion:

“I am so grateful to have had three seasons to tell the stories of Leif, Harald, and Freydís. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to show the evolution of how three of the most famous Vikings became the icons we know today, and we have done just that. I hope when the audience gets to see the new season, they’ll be excited by all the new heights that we’ve taken these heroes.”
