Following the record-breaking (and controversial) success of DAHMER - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Ryan Murphy's Netflix series, Monster, is coming back for another season. DAHMER - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story quickly became one of Netflix's most-watched shows of all time — it's currently third, after season 4 of Stranger Things and season 1 of Wednesday — with 856,220,000 hours watched.

Like his other shows American Horror Story and American Crime Story, Monster is an anthology series that will follow a new set of characters each season. While the first season dramatized the terrifying true events that unfolded when infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer murdered 17 men between 1978 and 1991, the upcoming installment will focus on Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were convicted in 1996 for the murders of their parents.

When does Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story come out?

According to a video posted by Netflix, the next installment of Ryan Murphy's Monster series is hitting the streamer in 2024. The announcement features the infamous 911 call from the Mendendez Brothers' murders in 1989 where Lyle cries to the operator as he tells them his parents have been fatally shot.

In November 2022, Netflix greenlit two more installments of the Monster franchise following the success of DAHMER, per a report by Deadline. The streamer has revealed that each installment of the series will "tell the stories of other monstrous figures who have impacted society."

What is Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story going to be about?

The second season of Monster will follow the whirlwind of the Menendez Brothers' murders that took the media by storm in the late '80s and early '90s. Lyle and Erik Menendez were only 21 and 18 when their parents José and Mary Louise "Kitty" Menendez were killed in their Beverly Hills home in 1989. At first, the siblings weren't suspects in the killings, but according to Deadline, in the months following the murders, police began to investigate their involvement.

Eventually, psychologist Jerome Oziel received a confession from Erik that he and his brother fatally shot their parents. During their high-profile trial, the brothers claimed to have killed their parents in self-defense after receiving "a lifetime of abuse." They first tried separately, which caused both juries to deadlock and result in a mistrial. Once they were tried together in 1990, they were found guilty and sentenced to life without parole. Erik and Lyle are currently incarcerated at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in Southern California.
