Joe Goldberg Literally Gets Caught Red-Handed in Netflix’s ‘You’ Season 2 Trailer

From Cosmopolitan

Tired of waiting for You season 2? Uh, same. Luckily, it’s right around the corner. (This is probably the one single instance where a serial killer hiding around the corner is something you’re looking forward to. 2019 is weird, man.) Anyway, the campy thriller rom-com mashup is moving from Lifetime to Netflix, and it’s about to get even scarier. Here’s what you should know.

The premiere date is really, really soon.

All 10 new episodes will drop December 26, 2019! Mark your calendars.

The teaser is creepy as hell...

Well, it’s nice to see that Joe (or, uh...Will?) is as judgmental as ever. He somehow manages to drag influencers, gluten-free eaters, and basically all of Los Angeles in under a minute.

...and the trailer is even spookier.

Netflix finally released the full trailer, and everything Joe says makes it seem like he’s trying to change, but then he literally gets caught red-handed...so we’ll see how this goes down. Also, it appears that Joe’s ex Candace is up to some stalker-y behavior as well. Wonderful!

What’s going down in season 2?

Here’s the official description from Netflix:

“When we last saw Joe (Penn Badgley), his heart was tragically broken and his past just caught up with him in the form of long-lost ex-girlfriend Candace (Ambyr Childers)—a woman now hell-bent on teaching him a lesson. Season 2 finds him on the run from Candace—leaving New York City for his own personal hell: Los Angeles. He’s fresh out of an intense relationship that ended in murder. The last thing he expects is to meet an incredible new woman, but he’s falling in love again—with a woman named Love (Victoria Pedretti). Is history repeating? Or will this time be the real thing? Joe’s just crazy enough to risk finding out.”

How will Netflix change You?

In an interview, Penn discussed what we can expect from a Netflix version of the thriller series. “There are certain liberties we’re now able to take, but it’s very much the same show,” Penn insists. Basically, there will be more swearing, but nothing will “cross the line aggressively.”

How will Joe deal with Beck’s death?

“There’s a revisitation of that with Joe in the second episode of the second season, where you get to see a bit more of the hard reality of what he did to her,” Penn hints to ET. “In his mind, she’s not even dead.” That’s not a spoiler though. She’s definitely dead. “In his mind, everyone’s still alive because the pain that he feels he suffered at their hand is very much still alive.”

Any new faces?

It’s official. Joe has a new girl in his life and she will be played by Netflix alum Victoria Pedretti of The Haunting of Hill House. According to Entertainment Weekly, Victoria will play Love, a girl who couldn’t be more different than Beck. Here’s how she’s described:

“An aspiring chef working as a produce manager in a high-end grocery store. Love is uninterested in the world of social media, branding, and self-promotion, focused instead on leading an interesting life. She is also tending to a deep grief, and when she meets Joe Goldberg, she senses a shared knowledge of profound, life-changing loss.”

Showrunner Sera Gamble says we’re in for a major shake-up in season 2 with this new leading lady. “Season 1 was a particular kind of story that we could tell about the relationship between Joe and Beck, and the moment that we did what we did in the finale, that’s not repeatable,” Gamble says. “I will say that Love is a person he could only have met after what happened between him and Beck. And by the way, Joe is not out there looking for love. He’s truly heartbroken by what has happened, and so what Love offers is a different kind of friendship and a different kind of relationship.”

“I’m really excited for people to get to know Love,” Penn tells ET. “There’s a side to Joe that we haven’t seen yet because her character, in some ways, is the polar opposite of Beck.”

Who else is coming back?

Obviously, with the way the first season ended, Joe will continue to take center stage and will be dealing with the mysterious Candace. No official word yet on if a bearded John Stamos will reprise his role as Dr. Nicky, but Gamble told Vanity Fair that they are “excited to keep telling that story.”

There’s also a chance Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail) and Peach Salinger (Shay Mitchell) could return...at least as visions haunting our boy Joe.

Claudia (Victoria Cartagena), Paco’s mom, is reportedly returning, along with Ethan (Zach Cherry), Lynn (Nicole King), and Annika (Kathryn Gallagher).

You season 2 is based on Hidden Bodies.

For those of you who read the series that You is based on, you will know that this is exactly what goes down in Hidden Bodies. Gamble told Entertainment Weekly that his new love interest may be a driving force in his changing opinion. “To me, Love embodies the best of Los Angeles. Joe is not moving to L.A. because he fu*king loves the West Coast. He’s a New Yorker and he has bought the party line on how terrible L.A. is, and when he gets here, very little dissuades him from his initial opinion,” Gamble says.

“This show is an opportunity to illuminate an L.A. that maybe a lot of people haven’t seen that goes beyond the Hollywood sign, and Love is part of that. She’s a Los Angeles native. She has really absorbed the best of the city and she’s really artistic with the way that she lives her life.”

What about ALL those loose ends?

Don’t worry, Joe’s not out of the woods just yet. “He is very worried about the fact that Peach Salinger’s family has hired people to investigate her alleged suicide, and there is evidence potentially still at her house from season 1,” Gamble said. “If you look at every act of violence that he does in season 1, that is potentially something that could come back and bite him.”

While you wait, please enjoy Penn tweeting about the show.

No, that’s not a GIF. But he soon got the hang of it.

There you go!

Then he realized, much to his chagrin, that a lot of you weirdos are actually crushing on that guy who masturbated in the bushes while staring into a stranger’s apartment.

I know, he was confused too.

Don’t worry, it’s something he’s planning on working on for season 2, because this nonsense has to end.
