The family of missing actor Julian Sands isn't giving up hope of finding him.

Five months after the 65-year-old actor went missing during a hike in Southern California, his family has issued a statement to thank the search and rescue teams helping to look for Sands as the case remains ongoing.

"We are deeply grateful to the search teams and coordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian," read the family's statement, shared to Twitter on Wednesday, June 21. "We continue to hold Julian in our hearts with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer."

Sands—known for roles in various films, including 1985's A Room with a View and 1989's Warlock—was reported missing in January, after he never returned from hiking Mount Baldy in San Bernardino County.

Despite search and rescue efforts being impacted by significant amounts of inclement weather in the area in recent months, the search remains ongoing.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's office provided an update in a tweet on Wednesday to confirm, "Although missing hiker, Julian Sands, was not located during the recent search mission, the case remains active."

"We want to thank all the individuals who assisted in the June 17th search and the previous search missions."

The Sheriff's department provided more information about the June 17 search in a statement released over the weekend, claiming over 80 volunteers, deputies and staff joined in on Saturday's search.

"Their efforts were supported by two helicopters, and drone crews," the department noted in a press release. "Aviation resources inserted search teams into remote areas across Mount Baldy and conducted aerial search and assessments efforts. Additionally, drone crews searched areas inaccessible to ground crews."

However, the statement continues, portions of the mountain still remain "inaccessible due to extreme alpine conditions." Despite the warmer weather, "Multiple areas include steep terrain and ravines, which still have 10 plus feet of ice and snow."

The Sheriff's office maintained in the press release that Sands' missing person case "remains active" and "search efforts will continue in a limited capacity."

Anyone with information is being asked to call Detective B. Meelker with the Fontana Station at 909-356-6710.
