I scoured Walmart for hours: you can save a thousand dollars this Labor Day
It's the start of the Labor Day weekend. That means big discounts on a range of home home goods, and Walmart has plenty of deals already.
I'm a shopping writer and product tester, and I've gone through thousands of Walmart deals to find the best. Every one is featured with my thoughts on the pros and cons to help you find genuine value instead of a cheap discount.
By far the best deals are on patio furniture, with thousands off big furniture sets, but there's also some discounts on tested home and garden appliances, some of which I've tested first-hand.
Labor Day at Walmart
If you want to get straight to the point, there's a wide range of discounts across the site.
Patio furniture at Walmart: The best deals of all, with thousands off outdoor furniture.
Bedding at Walmart: I've found more than 50% off sham sets and pillows.
Bath at Walmart: Big discounts on towels and bathroom furniture.
Kitchen appliances at Walmart: Savings on air fryers, juicers, and slow cookers.

Mattresses at Walmart: Mattresses start at $65 this Labor Day, with discounts on tested brands like Zinus and Casper.
Patio furniture
Traditionally, outdoor furniture has the biggest discounts on Labor Day. Retailers sell off furniture that they won't sell over the winter to free up their stock for gifts for the holidays, and Walmart is no exception. I've found huge deals at Walmart for this Labor Day.
Ovios 5 Pieces Outdoor Patio Furniture

I will be amazed if I see a better deal than this over this Labor Day: a frankly absurd $1,169.01 off this furniture set. It's one of the biggest savings I've ever seen, and there's even two pillows thrown in absolutely free. The catch? You have to move fast, as half of the six color options have already sold out.
Syngar Rattan Patio Sofa Set
Was $1299.99, now $499.99 at Walmart
This unbelievable $800 saving is one of the best deals I've seen this Labor Day. For the price of some outdoor chairs, you can grab a 3-seat sofa, a chair, and ottoman and a coffee table.
Superjoe 5 Pcs Outdoor Aluminum Furnitur
Was $1599.99, now $998.99 at Walmart
Aluminum has long been my secret weapon with garden furniture. It's lightweight, so it's easy to rearrange and move into storage, and it's also rustproof, so you can get years of use out of it. $600 is a great saving on a set that seat seven.
Best Choice Products Modular Outdoor Sofa
Was $1099.99, now $699.99 at Walmart
An. Modular sofas are so versatile. This set can be arranged as a pseudo-conversation pit as above, or changed into a long L-shaped sectional, or broken up into mixed seating for parties. This gray and navy set is perfect for sitting poolside.
AECOJOY Outdoor Furniture Set
Was $1099.99, now $649.99 at Walmart
I really like the lightweight polywicker frame on this furniture set - from a distance it almost looks like the seats are floating, and it's a nice change from the blocky gray sides of lots of polyrattan furniture. This set is now nearly $500 off for Labor Day.
Costway Outdoor Adirondack Chair
Was $136, now $95.99 at Walmart
It's hard to beat a good Adirondack chair – they're an American classic. This one is made from hardwearing acacia, my favorite hardwood for outdoor furniture – it's lighter and cheaper than teak and has none of the potential ethical concerns.
Cleaning
I've long believed that vacuums are too expensive. They tend to cost hundreds of dollars and it always feels like a lot to spend just to have clean floors. That's why shopping for these at Labor Day is a smart move, and I've caught some of our favorites on markdown.
ONSON Robot Vacuum Cleaner | Was $619.99, now $109.99 at Walmart
This is one of the biggest discounts I've seen this Labor Day: a huge $510 discount off this robot vacuum cleaner. You hardly ever see robot vacuums at the $100 mark, but a word of warning: we haven't tested this, so I can't vouch for it. View Deal
Shark Vertex Cordless Vacuum | Was $399, now $199 at Walmart
I've tested vacuums for years, and this is still one of my favorites. It offers near-Dyson performance at a much more reasonable price, and now it's even less. I personally think the compact folding storage is a bit of a gimmick, but being able to bend at the neck makes it unbelievably easy to clean under furniture. View Deal
Dyson Ball Animal 2| was $499.99, now $279.99 at Walmart
One of my favorite insider tips with Dyson is to grab a Ball Animal 2 around sales periods. Sure, it's an older vacuum and it's pretty clumsy, but if all you need is a powerful vacuum to totally transform your floors, this will do the job for hundreds of dollars less than a top-line Dyson. Kitchen
Kitchen appliances tend to have their biggest discounts around Black Friday, but there's still some good offers if you know where to look. My biggest tip is to look out for Labor Day's discounts on large appliances like fridges rather than smaller countertop appliances, as these aren't always on sale around Black Friday.

I used the original Duo Crisp for a few months and by far the biggest drawback was storing the two specialised lids. This updated model, however, uses a single lid, so you can follow every step of cooking in a single pot. Gardens
Garden equipment also tends to go on sale for Labor Day for the same reasons as outdoor furniture, so you can find some great discounts. In all honesty I haven't been that impressed with the range of garden tool deals at Walmart, but I've found a couple deals that reallyt stand out.
Worx WG779 Cordless Lawnmower | Was $299.99, now $219 at Walmart
In another life I reviewed garden tools, which involved dozens of lawnmower tests. This is easily my favorite from those years – a lightweight cordless with power to rival even gas mowers. It's really straightforward: this is easy to use and does a great job.

This year, Labor Day falls on September 4th. It's a federal holiday celebrating workers, so most people will have the day off.
When is Black Friday?
Black Friday is November 24th, the day after Thanksgiving. However, in recent years the deals have lasted all month long. The following Monday has also been called Cyber Monday, and sees further discounts.
What's on sale for Labor Day?
The biggest discounts on Labor Day tend to be for patio and garden furniture. That's because demand drops off after the summer, and retailers want to make room in their warehouses and shop floors for holiday gifts. That means you can save thousands on patio furniture. You might not be able to use it in a couple months, but you'll have it in time for spring.
Final thoughts
Walmart has some great deals, but it pays off to shop around. It's well worth considering other retailers like Amazon, Bloomingdale's, QVC and Wayfair.
