*Major spoilers for season 3 of Stranger Things below!*

The Scoops Troop stole everyone hearts when they finally got together to stop the crazy Russian army that built a creepy underground base in their mall and tried to open a portal to the Upside Down. Of course, they were able to stop them thanks to the help of the other groups in Hawkins. But, it turns out, that the Scoops Troop almost never got together in the first place.

In an episode of the podcast Behind the Scenes: Stranger Things 3, director Shawn Levy talked about how the unlikely pairing of Steve and Erica also made the Scoops Troop not get together.

"You know, putting Steve Harrington with Erica Sinclair, on paper that doesn't make any sense. But neither did Dustin and Steve and so one of the great skills of the Duffers and of our show is trying pairings that we've never done before and often bottling magic by the new dynamics that come up in these new pairings."

"The idea of placing her [Erica] in the middle of the narrative, literally putting a young child with incredible attitude in the midst of a world saving plot line, that is such an inappropriate mashup, but it's such a perfect formula for comedy and, I think, for fun," he said.

While it was fun to see all these familiar characters interacting with each other, the Duffer Brothers felt like there was still one missing element to it all and decided to add a new character that had a connection with Steve.

"We wanted to put [Steve] with a classmate he barely even remembers or knows, but certainly remembers him, and that's part of the outsider group," Levy said.

Maya Hawke also said that her experience joining the cast was similar to Robin joining the Scoops Troop.

"As I loosened up and got more comfortable on set, she loosened up and got comfortable with Steve and the whole Scoops Troop," she said on the podcast.

We're so glad they did cause this season would've been TOTALLY different without the Scoops Troop.
