Scientists Review Nail Products on Amazon

Forget two-day delivery.

While we'll never tire of our favorite glitter, holographic, and metallic nail lacquers, it turns out the real unsung hero of our collection is a subtler sort. That clear nail polish that helps seal in your manicures actually has a bunch of hidden uses you've probably never thought of. But in order to give them the spotlight, scientists have taken to Amazon reviews to discuss just how practical items like nail polish have been for their jobs. As the trending Twitter hashtag #ReviewsForScience, revealed, clear polish can go on a bunch of things that are not your fingernails.

For example, one scientist revealed that clear the beauty product pairs well with slides. “Perfect seal, rapid dry for coverslips on microscope slides,” she said. She continued to clarify what kind of polish works, “Clear only, sparkly ones interfere with the microscope.” In the same thread, another scientist added that he actually uses ones with sparkles. "Some of the sparkly ones contain metal bits that mean the polish works well for grounding scanning electron microscopy stubs!" he explained.

Apparently, scientific uses for beauty products go way beyond polish. As one person claimed Vaseline is, “Perfect medium to mix skunk essence for a scent paste that'll last all season for black bear hair snares. "Another person noted that makeup brushes are “Perfect for manipulating 20 micron sections of bird or fish brain.”
