This School Will Pay 50 People to Study Aviation in Kansas — and They Guarantee a Job Interview at the End

If you’ve ever dreamed of working in the aviation industry, now’s your chance. All you need to do is move to Wichita, Kansas first.

For the second year in a row, WSU Tech, the largest technical college in Kansas, is looking for interested parties to come and study at one of its two programs to one day work in the aviation industry in the community.

Oh, and they’re willing to pay you to move there and attend school, as well.

“WSU Tech is ramping up their Wichita Promise Move scholarship that pays tuition and fees, relocation and cost of living expenses and provides a guaranteed job interview,” the program shared in a statement with Travel + Leisure. The program, it further explained, is in response to local aviation companies announcing major job growth in the near future.

Wichita, Kansas — known as “The Air Capital of the World” — is experiencing massive growth in the aviation and manufacturing operations sector. Because of this, WSU Tech is stepping in to help identify qualified candidates, relocate and train them for openings in the local industry.

“The goal of Wichita Promise Move is to relocate people who live at least 75-miles outside of the Wichita area to receive training and an employment opportunity at no cost to the student,” the statement explained. “WSU Tech hopes to attract 50 more individuals to start training as early as March.”

Beyond helping fill industry roles, the program is also designed to help people get the training they need to find a new job.

“Wichita Promise Move is designed to help break down the barriers that keep individuals from getting trained,” Dr. Sheree Utash, President of WSU Tech, said. “Whether those barriers are financial, location, time or the fear of failing, we are ready to help anyone get the training they need to get a career in aviation and live, work and play in Wichita."

The training programs include Aviation Sheet Metal Assembly and Process Mechanic Paint. Both programs can be completed in as little as six weeks.

Beyond tuition and a guaranteed job interview, the program will also pay all relocation costs, provide housing, pay cost of living expenses while enrolled, and even offer a potential sign-on bonus when hired.

According to WSU, the companies offering job interviews include Spirit AeroSystems and Textron Aviation. And, most importantly to note, all 50 students who participated in the program in 2018 received job offers from one of these two companies.
