This year’s Los Angeles Pride Parade returned to West Hollywood on Sunday, June 9, after a free opening ceremony concert in the park featuring none other than Paula Abdul (who, we learned recently, can still very much slay) the night before. Down Santa Monica Boulevard, thousands of attendees celebrated not just their own pride as gay, lesbian, queer, transgender, and non-binary Angelenos, but the memory of those who came before.

On the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising in New York City, Pride celebrations around the country were as reflective as they were joyful, and Los Angeles was no exception. Christopher Street West, the nonprofit organization that hosts L.A. Pride, is named after the street where the Stonewall Inn, the site of the state violence that catalyzed the queer rights movement, remains today.

Hunter Abrams captured the revelry and solidarity for Vogue on the streets of West Hollywood.
