The Scene Inside Raf Simons’s Calvin Klein Spring ’18 Show

To attend Raf Simons’s second Calvin Klein show was to be immersed in an art-filled world of Americana. Sterling Ruby transformed the company’s Garment District headquarters into a curious stretch of cheerleader pom-poms, silver buckets, and axes dangling from the ceiling—a nod to American horror films like Carrie and The Shining—and sent out subversive clothes to match. Dresses with shimmering fringe evoked giant poms; Andy Warhol knife prints decorated cotton tanks; and rubber-y dresses evoked Hitchcock blondes. It was exactly what a fashion show should be: transportive, exhilarating, and a little weird.
