A good skincare routine doesn’t have to be extensive — just take it from Scarlett Johansson.
The actress’ skincare brand, The Outset, is a small but mighty line of products that are clean, fragrance-free, and sensitive skin-friendly. This week, The Outset opened up shop at Amazon. Johansson hosted an Amazon Live with co-founder Kate Foster to celebrate the launch, where the pair discussed the brand’s products at length.
In the new storefront, you’ll find the brand's three-step skincare routine, which Johansson dubbed her “holy grail” of go-tos for her busy day-to-day. The lineup includes a gentle cleanser, plumping serum, and creamy moisturizer, but you can also add the brand’s brightening eye cream, radiance-boosting facial oil, and other gems into the mix — and everything in the line is under $55. The Outset Gentle Micellar Antioxidant Cleanser

The first step in the brand’s consolidated skincare system is the Micellar Antioxidant cleanser. Its gel-to-foam formula gently breaks down makeup, oils, and germs from your skin without stripping it bare. Instead, the cleanser uses nourishing ingredients like Hyaluroset (the brand’s signature botanical alternative to hyaluronic acid), micelles, aminos, and fruit extracts to thoroughly hydrate skin.
According to Johansson, “It does not leave your skin with that tight feeling that you can often get from cleansing.” She explains, “Your skin feels so soft, supple, and clean afterwards.”
The Outset Firming Vegan Collagen Prep Serum
After cleansing, the brand recommends the Prep Serum, which Johannson calls a “game changing product." It uses vegan collagen, Hyaluroset, floral extracts, and more to plump your skin and reduce signs of aging. In the process, the serum also strengthens your skin barrier and adds a radiant glow. “My skin does not feel or look the same without it,” Johansson raved during the livestream before deeming it her “desert island product.”
She also noted that it’s the item she and her husband, Colin Jost, seem to be “refilling the most” from the line since they’re both avid users and lovers of its nourishing formula. Foster shared that her partner uses the serum as an aftershave because it’s “so soothing.”

The Outset Nourishing Squalene Daily Moisturizer
To close out the three-step skincare system, The Outset highlights this daily facial moisturizer, which gives a “lit from within” look to your skin, as well as a “bounce-back” and “ultra hydrated” feel, in Johansson’s words. The moisturizer is jam-packed with super nourishing ingredients that hydrate, soothe, and firm your skin with its milky formula. It locks in moisture for up to 24 hours, according to the brand, and wears well under makeup.
