There was a period of time when Scarlett Johansson didn't think she'd ever see her Avengers costar Jeremy Renner again.

Now that he's well into his remarkable recovery, she's looking back on the emotional reunion she and Chris Evans had with the Rennervations star several weeks ago in a new interview with Variety.

The pair flew to Los Angeles together to see Renner while he was in rehabilitative care. While Evans described their visit as "inspiring," explaining that there were "no tears at all, [but] a lot of laughs and smiles and hugs,” Johansson was a bit more choked up about the encounter. “I was honestly so f-----g happy to see him," she said. "I didn’t know if I was ever going to see him again. To not only see him again but to see him thriving and in such an amazing space, mentally.”

She continued, “He’s a very spiritual person in general and a very soulful person. And you can see that in his work. It comes through. He has such a depth to him. And I just was so happy to see that he is full of life and light, and he’s also hilarious. We laughed a lot.”

As you surely know by now, Renner was critically injured when he was pulled under the track of his snow plow shortly after the new year. Johansson was in Atlanta at the time, shooting Project Artemis. She recalls waking up to the horrific news and chatting with the rest of the original six Avengers in their group thread.

“On the Avengers text chain, we’re like, ‘OK, you beat us all. That’s it. You won,’” she shared, adding, “That’s like real superhero stuff. It’s unbelievable.”

There's a reason he's since been dubbed the "strongest Avenger!"
