Tom Sizemore Dead, 'Saving Private Ryan' Star Was 61

The troubled actor had been hospitalized for several weeks.

Tom Sizemore died at age 61, his manager Charles Lago confirmed to People on March 3.

"It is with great sadness and sorrow I have to announce that actor Thomas Edward Sizemore ("Tom Sizemore") aged 61 passed away peacefully in his sleep today at St Joseph's Hospital Burbank," Lago shared with the publication.

Sizemore's brother Paul, as well as his sons Jayden and Jagger, 17, were by his side when he passed. A "deeply saddened" Paul paid tribute to his brother, noting in a statement, "He was larger than life. He has influenced my life more than anyone I know. He was talented, loving, giving and could keep you entertained endlessly with his wit and storytelling ability. I am devastated he is gone and will miss him always."

According to People, a private cremation service will be held for the family, as well as a larger celebration of life event.

The actor was hospitalized on Feb. 18 after collapsing at his home in Los Angeles.

"He was found to be suffering from a brain aneurysm that occurred as a result of a stroke," Sizemore's manager said in a statement on Feb. 27. "Since that day, Tom has remained in critical condition, in a coma and in intensive care."

Lago continued, "Doctors informed his family that there is no further hope and have recommended end of life decision."

Sizemore is best known for playing Sergeant Mike Horvath in the 1998 Steven Spielberg war masterpiece Saving Private Ryan. Sizemore also starred in Natural Born Killers and had memorable turns in Black Hawk Down, Pearl Harbor, True Romance and Heat.

He was also a TV regular, with a starring role in Shooter and appearances in Twin Peaks and Lucifer.

Sizemore was riddled with legal troubles in recent years, including several arrests for drug possession, most recently in January 2020.

Sizemore was sued in 2018 for allegedly sexually abusing a minor on the set of a 2003 film; he denied the allegations; the suit was later dismissed.

In July 2016, a Shooter stuntman sued Sizemore for allegedly running him over during the filming of the series; weeks later Sizemore was arrested for domestic violence after he allegedly struck his girlfriend several times during an argument.

In 2010, Jinele McEntire, the mother of Sizemore's children, accused him of domestic violence. A rep for Sizemore denied the allegations.

In 2007, Sizemore spent time behind bars for a probation violation; in 2003, Sizemore was sentenced to six months for allegedly abusing his ex-girlfriend Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss.

Sizemore was open about his battle with drug addiction, telling Larry King in 2010 that he had struggled with heroin, methamphetamine and cocaine abuse. He also appeared on Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew the same year.

Sizemore is survived by his aforementioned twin sons.
