Savannah Guthrie's net worth is largely the result of her work as the long-running and beloved co-host of NBC’s TODAY. She’s held the position for an amazing 11 years and reportedly wakes up between 3 and 4 a.m. to do so.

Although the actual show doesn’t start until 7, Guthrie needs to do her “homework” before stepping on-set. “Even when something seems lighter, you need to prepare for it. That’s what I really do in the morning with a ginormous cup of coffee,” she said in an interview with Refinery29.

The successful TV journalist and anchor is also a mom of two and married to media consultant Mike Feldman.

Here’s how Guthrie got her start and how much she's earned from her illustrious news career.

How did Savannah Guthrie get her start?

Guthrie’s passion for journalism began at the University of Arizona in the early 1990s. "It was only in college when I started taking journalism classes that the fire was lit, and I really wanted to accomplish things," she told Refinery29.

After graduating, she climbed the ladder as a reporter and anchor in several local newsrooms. But she took a big detour—getting a law degree from Georgetown and working for two years in white-collar criminal defense.

“It wasn't my dream,” Guthrie said in a commencement speech at Georgetown in 2019. “What I really wanted was to go back to my roots in journalism. I still had that nagging hope that one day I could really make it in television news.”

The nagging hope quickly turned to reality. After a stint for Court TV from 2004 to 2006, Guthrie became an NBC News legal correspondent, where she made her first appearance on TODAY. An exclusive interview with Sarah Palin led to her position as the NBC White House correspondent. And in 2012, she assumed her current role as full-time co-host of TODAY.

What is Savannah Guthrie’s net worth?

As of 2023, Savannah Guthrie has a reported net worth of $40 million. Although she’s worked for various newsrooms and even as a lawyer throughout her career, most of her net worth has likely come from her seven-figure TODAY salary.

And she’s well worth it. Viewers love Guthrie—in fact, in 2017, TODAY brought her back from maternity leave four days early because ratings had fallen in her absence, according to The New York Post.

What is Savannah Guthrie’s annual salary?

Guthrie’s salary for her spot on TODAY has not been publicly released, but it’s estimated by Celebrity Net Worth and other sources that she makes around $8 million per year.

While this is a huge salary by normal standards, it’s quite small compared to what her former co-host Matt Lauer made. Lauer, who was fired in 2017 after allegations of sexual misconduct, pulled in anywhere from $20 million-$25 million annually from 2012 until his firing, according to Fortune.

In a 2018 Page Six article, an inside source said, “Matt’s salary reflected the long time he was on the show—25 years. [...] But the figures underline the huge wage disparity at NBC News.”

Does Savannah make more than Hoda?

Guthrie’s TODAY co-host, Hoda Kotb, is said to earn a similar salary. When she came on as co-host in 2018 it was reported she’d make $7 million a year—a bit less than Guthrie’s supposed $8 million. However, she may make more than that now, and sources like Celebrity Net Worth put her salary in the $8 million-$10 million range.

How much does Savannah Guthrie make per year?

According to various estimates, Savannah Guthrie makes about $8 million a year for her role as TODAY co-anchor. Given her 11 years on the show and previous anchors’ salaries (such as Megyn Kelly, who made $18 million), it’s possible she earns more.
