  • Lionel Richie's daughter, Sofia Richie, recently made waves on social media for her stylish wedding.

  • Lionel was asked what he'd given his daughter as a gift, and revealed the answer was currently "nothing."

  • Lionel does, however, plan on giving her something after her honeymoon, and even performed songs at the reception.

Sofia Richie's fairytale wedding to music executive Elliot Grainge has attracted a lot of attention with the internet abuzz about the decor, the guest list, and yes, the gifts. We've already looked into the expensive items that made up the 24 year old influencer's lavish $116k wedding registry, which included items like a $2,500 Lalique crystal panther and a $1,900 Baccarat vase.

But naturally, everybody is wondering what music megastar Lionel Richie got his influencer daughter for her wedding. One inquisitive red carpet reporter actually asked Lionel what he gave Sofia on her big day, and his answer certainly surprised them.

"I know you sang at the wedding for Sofia. What did you get her? Any gifts, or was that your gift?" the E! News reporter asked of Lionel. His answer?

"Oh no no no...I've given her...as I've told her, she said 'Dad, what is gonna be my gift?' I said '25 years of paying every bill'"

Lionel followed that up with a laugh before clarifying that he was "just kidding." In actuality, the music star is just waiting for the happy couple to return from their honeymoon to give them his gift, one he insists will be "something they can actually use." So ... probably not a $2,500 crystal panther, then.

As for the wedding performance, Lionel was asked in a different E! News interview what he performed at Sofia's wedding. He said they asked if he could do two songs, "Hello" and "Stuck on You" and the singer obliged, though not before joking that he wasn't sure "Lionel Richie" fit their budget.

Now, no disrespect to those song choices—those are obviously the hits you'd want Lionel to play if he was singing at your wedding. But if you're his kid, you've got a little more sway with the singer, so why not go for some deeper cuts? Have him do "Wandering Stranger" off of his 1982 debut record. Get him to sing "Nothing Else Matters" off of 1996's Louder Than Words. Heck, get real weird with it and have him cover Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" off of their 1996 self-titled album. You've got one of the world's greatest vocalists on speed dial, Sofia. Dig a bit deeper is all we're saying.
