Saturday Was a Big Day for Childish Gambino Fans

Donald Glover killed it on SNL and debuted a new video at the same time.

There was plenty to be excited about with the announcement alone that Donald Glover would be hosting SNL and performing as his alter ego, Childish Gambino. The news promptly sparked speculation that he may debut new music during the show, which may sound like a tall order for someone with so much going on—Glover's been busy promoting both Atlanta Robbin' Season and the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story.

But Glover isn't too damn busy for anything that he wants to do, as he's been very quick to remind people in the past, even writing his own Deadpool script just to prove that he had the bandwidth for it. So, sure enough, for his first number on SNL, he killed it with a performance of a new song, "Saturday":

That was just a teaser though. Glover broke out another new song, "This Is America," for his second appearance, but shortly before that, during the episode, he dropped a video for the song, directed by the Atlanta Robbin' Season director and producer, Hiro Murai. It's a surreal experience, careening from lighthearted to murderous without warning.

"Saturday" and "This Is America" is the first new music from Childish Gambino since 2016's Awaken, My Love, and there's speculation that he has a new album coming later this year. And while it may seem like he has a lot on his plate, it's should be clear by now that Glover can find time to turn out whatever work he wants.
