Satellite seed library to be unveiled at Kingsport Farmers Market

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — A new satellite seed library will be unveiled at the Kingsport Farmers Market on Saturday.

The seed library, conducted by the Kingsport Public Library and the Kingsport Cultural Arts, will provide flower, plant and vegetable seeds that can be “borrowed” by local gardeners and farmers.

At the end of the season, individuals can donate back a sampling of seeds from their harvest to be used by gardens next year.

“We started the seed library with donations from our community partners and have sent out thousands of seeds since opening it to the public,” Customer Experience Librarian Jonas Clubb said in a release. “Our goal is to build a sustainable collection of seeds patrons can use for many years to come.”

The new seed library, with 112 seed packets, will be unveiled at the opening of the Kingsport Farmers Market on Saturday.

The library will remain at the farmers market throughout the 2024 season. Seed donations will also be accepted.
