I’m a jeans girl through and through; in fact, I wear denim almost every day. But you see, I want to get more creative by opting for trousers, but they’re all too long for my under 5-foot frame. Unless I want my pants dragging across New York City sidewalks (I don’t!), then I’m fresh out of luck — or so I thought, until Madewell’s Harlow Wide-Leg Pant landed on my radar.

Featuring a draped silhouette, these best-selling, relaxed pants have roomy front and side pockets, an unfussy two-button closure, delicate stitching, belt loops, and creped details. They’re available in sizes 00 to 16, including petite, plus, standard, and tall inseams, which came in clutch for my petite self. A wide range of colors like black, tan, and green let you customize your look, while a breezy linen iteration offers something a bit more lightweight for spring.

Some may think these loose pants are unsexy since they don’t lift the booty or contour like others might, but they’re anything but that. Not only do celebrities like Nicole Kidman and Gwyneth Paltrow approve of similar styles, but lookalike versions have become prominent street-style players, tapping into the popular oversized trends of today. Playing with proportions is key to making these non-restrictive bottoms stylish and chic, so don’t be afraid to try something new.

All that said, I didn’t have high hopes for Madewell’s Harlow pants. I thought they’d be like every other pair of trousers I’d tried, aka, too long and way too big. But I couldn't have been more wrong. The high waist sat above my belly button, the leg openings didn’t touch the floor, and the flowy fit was actually flattering.

The Harlow pant is also so comfortable; the fabric felt soft against my skin without being too hot or stiff. I’ve worn them just about everywhere, including a play date with my little cousins, dinner at my grandparents’ house, and a five-hour plane ride. Whether I was sitting down for an extended period of time or rolling them up for extra freedom, they never wrinkled.

Shoppers are just as impressed with the style, calling them a “tailored, classic, wide-legged dream.” The same reviewer continued to praise the comfort, mentioning they don’t “overwhelm the frame,” either. Someone else called them the “perfect work pants,” differentiating them from tight, fussy bottoms. That said, many recommend going down one size since they tend to run a bit large; however, I opted for my typical size and they fit perfectly.

As a final cherry on top, the Harlow pant is also extremely easy to style. Simply choose a hue that coordinates with your wardrobe and wear the bottoms with a blazer, T-shirt, button-up blouse, or bodysuit. Dress the pants up or down with your choice of shoes, like sneakers, ballet flats, or stilettos. I like to wear my pants with a V-neck cashmere sweater, platform sneakers, and a statement belt to elevate my casual fit, but there’s no wrong way to wear them.
