Sasha Obama Will Reportedly Start Classes at the University of Michigan Next Week

Class is almost back in session nationwide and Sasha Obama is packing her bags and heading to Michigan for college. According to Detroit News, the youngest of the Obamas is set to start classes at the University of Michigan very soon.

Sasha will reportedly start classes on Tuesday, September 3, at Michigan's oldest college. The outlet reports Sasha had already been spotted on campus attending summer freshman orientation with security and perusing the UMich’s facilities, such as the undergraduate library, earlier this summer — according to some students and staff.

With her decision to enroll at UMich, Sasha will become the first in the family to opt out of an Ivy League education. Her sister, Malia, is currently enrolled at Harvard University, and former First Lady Michelle Obama and President Barack Obama are Princeton and Columbia alums, respectively.

And Sasha’s decision to favor a top-tier public university is sitting well with people on Twitter. “Sasha Obama could probably have gone anywhere she wanted for college. She chose Maize & Blue. Very cool,” lawyer Kumar Rao tweeted after seeing the news. “Holy crap Sasha Obama is gonna be a Wolverine! She literally could have gone to school anywhere, this is so cool!” another user commented.

Though all signs point to Sasha, whose real name is actually Natasha, wearing the Maize and Blue, Rick Fitzgerald, a spokesperson for UMich has yet to confirm the news. "We cannot confirm the enrollment of any student," he told Detroit News. "Classes do not start until next week, and we are weeks away from official enrollment information."

One thing is confirmed though: whatever school she attends, we’ll be cheering her on.
