You might have been spending quarantine testing new recipes, perfecting your Zoom outfits, and enjoying quality time with your family, and believe it or not, actress Sarah Michelle Gellar is no different.

Sarah, who is known for her role in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, appreciates how much she's been able to slow down and revel in life's simple pleasures since the pandemic began. "We're all guilty of being extremely busy and technologically connected, and this has given us pause to do things like walking, hiking, playing board games, and spending extended time with my immediate family," Sarah, who shares two children, Charlotte and Rocky, with husband, actor Freddie Prinze Jr, tells Good Housekeeping.

Along with exercising outdoors in her California neighborhood and making room for family time, she's also been reading. Her latest book? Lisa Unger's Confessions on the 7:45. "I love a good thriller," Sarah says of The New York Times bestselling author's title. "She's great at keeping you interested and not seeing all the twists that are coming with a fabulous cat-mouse game."

She's also amped up her Instagram presence, regularly sharing her stylish work-from-home outfits with her 3.4 million followers. She believes that dressing well, even at home, can be a mood-booster. "You present yourself differently when you're dressed and feel good about yourself," she says.

And then there's her passion for cooking (in 2015, she co-founded FoodStirs, a brand focused on baking kits and mixes). Lately, she's been proud of her taquitos, but on Tuesday, November 24, Sarah is putting her skills to the test by teaming up with Travelocity to host a free virtual Zoom cooking class that's open to the public.

In the class, Sarah will share a travel-themed Thanksgiving dish and some of her best tips to make the holiday extra-special this year (you can learn more about the event here).

Lucky for you, you don't have to wait until November 24th to get a taste of Sarah's cooking style. The star shared her Southern Thanksgiving Cornbread Muffins recipe before the event.

Sarah Michelle Gellar's Southern Thanksgiving Cornbread Muffins

Yield: 12 Muffins

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups 1⁄2 pieces of cornbread

  • 6 tablespoons (3⁄4) stick unsalted butter, plus more for the muffin tin

  • 1 1⁄2 cups diced onions

  • 3⁄4 cup chopped celery

  • 1⁄2 cup fresh flat-leaf parsley, chopped

  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh sage

  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme

  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

  • 1⁄2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 1⁄4 cup chicken broth

  • 1 large egg

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 12-cup muffin tin with butter. Place the cornbread pieces in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for about 1 hour, until dried out. Let cool. Transfer the cooled bread to a large bowl. Raise the oven temperature to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and celery and cook until soft, about 8 minutes. Transfer to the bowl with the bread and a mix to combine. Add the herbs, salt, and pepper and toss to combine. Slowly add half the broth and toss.

  3. In a separate bowl, combine the remaining broth and egg and whisk to blend. Add the egg mixture to the bread and seasoning and fold until incorporated. Place an ice cream scoop full of the stuffing mixture into each cup of the prepared muffin tin. Cover the aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes, then uncover and bake for 10 to 15 minutes more, or until the tops are golden.
