Saoirse Ronan Vogue Cover Photographed by Jamie Hawkesworth

We first met the Bronx-born, Ireland-bred Saoirse Ronan at the age of 13, when she dazzled audiences with her Academy Award–nominated role in Atonement. Since, Ronan has continued to capture our attention with turns on-screen (Lady Bird, Brooklyn) and on the Broadway stage (The Crucible). On the eve of her next project, where she takes on the titular role of Mary Queen of Scots, this brilliant young actress—a three-time Oscar nominee, and a Golden Globe winner—catches up with Vogue. In conversation with fellow Irishwoman Sally Rooney, Ronan speaks of maintaining a private life, her dedication to family, and the world itself.
