Saoirse Ronan's Red Carpet Hair Is Even Better From the Back

On behalf of her film Lady Bird, actress Saoirse Ronan stepped out in a chain-wrapped updo at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Saoirse Ronan is having a moment—and it's quickly becoming one bound for the beauty books. The Academy Award-nominated ingenue continued her tour of red carpet events yesterday at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where she opted for a seemingly easy updo elevated by glimmers of subversive cool. Ronan's finger-raked glossy blonde topknot was the epitome of ease, but rather than lean in to the insouciant ideal, the actress opted to finish the look with a cascade of silver chains that coiled around her bun before falling toward her left shoulder blade.

Next, makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua—who shared a duo of squares on Instagram highlighting the look—edged Ronan's glacial gaze in onyx liner penned partially around each eye before extending into delicate feline flicks. The look strikes a new note for the actress, who, since starring in Lady Bird, has experimented with sculptural coifs, petal dusted lids, and various shades of red lipstick on the carpet. Whether or not Ronan takes home the gilded statuette come Oscar-time, one thing is certain: this award season doubles as a winning lesson in above-the-neck inspiration.
