Santoni Shanghai, Terrot Merger Gets Chinese Government Green Light

The Chinese government has given approval for the acquisition of Terrot GmbH, a German manufacturer of circular knitting machines, by the Santoni Shanghai Knitting Machinery Ltd.

The move will increase Santoni’s production capacity and boost market share, while advancing its goal to enliven the circular knitting sector. Santoni is among the industry’s top names.

Santoni developed an Ecosystem Strategy in recent years to unify an industry many view as fragmented. The new strategy makes it more innovative, sustainable and digital as well as helping it meet a rising demand for high-end circular knitting products.

Terrot and Santoni will now be able to bridge client demand and deliver substantial added value by using both parties’ intellectual assets, automation capacity, integrated enterprise services, concept-to-market solutions and a “Materialliance” designers’ platform.

By acquiring Terrot, with its double jersey and jacquard offerings, Santoni gains a competitive edge with the ability to offer high efficiency machines known for their superior performance, low maintenance and cost-effectiveness. Terrot is based in Chemnitz, Germany.

The acquisition is part of Santoni’s plan to cultivate a more extensive talent pool and solutions portfolio in order to deliver superior knits to its clientele, according to company CEO Gianpietro Belotti.

“The acquisition of Terrot, including the reputable Pilotelli brand, will allow us to deliver on our commitment to building a stronger, more consolidated global ecosystem capable of yielding a sustained competitive advantage in the circular knitting machinery industry,” the CEO said.

Terrot will continue to operate under the current leadership of co-managing directors Dirk Lange and Robert Czajkowski in Chemnitz.

Terrot’s patented UCC 572-T was to be showcased at Santoni’s Shanghai premises during ITMA Asia + CITME 2023. Potential future collaborations can be seen in the state-of-the-art high-feeder transfer jacquard machine for sports and loungewear.
