Sangiovese Ristorante, Bovaconti Coffee to open in Carmel's Arts and Design District

Familiar Italian flavors will come to Carmel’s growing Arts and Design District early next year, with Sangiovese Ristorante planning to open a new location called Tre at 10 E Main St in February.

The 5,300-square-foot eatery will feature 120 seats inside, including a private dining room and a full bar, plus outdoor seating for 50 guests. The menu will be distinct from Sangiovese’s, but still feature classic Italian dishes.

Sangiovese has served upscale Italian cuisine to Indianapolis residents since 1994 when it opened its flagship location at River's Edge shopping center on the north side. In 2015 the restaurant moved a few blocks west to the Ironworks at Keystone.

The second location opened in Fishers in January 2020. Tre’s name, Italian for three, alludes to the restaurant being the third of Sangiovese Enterprises, said CEO Chris Evans. The restaurant will be part of Carmel's 1st on Main mixed use development, currently under construction with a targeted completion date of October 2023.

This final endeavor will allow Evans and Sangiovese director of operations Francesco Settanni, who is leading development of the Carmel restaurant, to “take things up a step.”

“Downtown Carmel is very vibrant; it’s a phenomenal corner,” Evans said. “I think that corner deserves an elevated Italian restaurant.”

Evans said he believes Tre will appeal to all the senses. An expensive lighting package and artwork from an undisclosed renowned local artist will join the tastes, aromas and textures of award-winning food and wine.

“When you come to Tre, I want you to sit down and have a two-hour vacation from the stresses from your life,” Evans said.

Indianapolis coffee shop to open Carmel spot

The Arts and Design District will also welcome a new Bovaconti Coffee location at Two W Main St. in spring 2024, Bovaconti confirmed in a news release.

Bovaconti owner Minda Balcius and co-founder Justin Jones opened their first location on 1042 Virginia Ave in fall 2019. The Carmel shop plans to serve Italian espresso drinks and other specialty coffees as well as tea and juice. Pastries, salads and sandwiches will also be available for purchase. The store will be open daily, and the courtyard north of the building will offer outdoor, pet-friendly seating.

“We’re thrilled for the opportunity to bring Bovaconti Coffee to downtown Carmel in such a historic and beautiful building, and look forward to being a gathering spot for the community,” Balcius said in the news release.
