May 22—SUNBURY — The Sunbury Sandwich Stroll returns next month and the clock is running out to get tickets.

According to Peterson Toscano, office administrator at Sunbury's Revitalization Inc., in Sunbury, individuals who want to purchase tickets have until May 31 to buy tickets for the June 8 event.

The event is presented by the Old Towne Neighborhood Committee in collaboration with Sunbury's Revitalization Inc.

Toscano said the groups promise a delightful showdown of Sunbury's finest culinary offerings.

"Alongside the classic savory category, this year will feature an exciting new addition, a delectable sweet dessert sandwich category," Toscano said.

Sunbury's top sandwich chefs will compete for two prestigious awards: The People's Choice, determined by event attendees, and The Judge's Choice, selected by a panel of judges.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets can be picked up at STEAM Innovation Labs at 363 Market St., the SRI website or in person at the Sunbury's Revitalization office at 450 Chestnut St. or the Degenstein Community Library. Tickets are $10, which covers 10 tasting coupons, or $20 on the day of the event.

Toscano said there is very limited availability and people should buy tickets in advance so the organizers can inform vendors how many sandwiches to prepare.

Toscano said the groups wanted to thank sponsors, UPMC, Weis Markets, Think Sunbury, and STEAM Innovation Labs for participating in the event.

"Last year, more than 1,200 sampling coupons were sold," Toscano said. "This year we expect that number to increase to 2,000. Big Mambo's Cubano Sandwich won the Judge's Award, and Midtown Bistro's Beef on a Bun won the People's Choice Award. Can they defend their titles? Who will be the new reigning Sunbury sandwich champions?"

Mayor Josh Brosious said he is looking forward to the event in conjunction with the Sunbury Summer Kick Off.

"I'm happy that we are continuing to have this city event and partnering with SRI to make the event bigger and better," he said. "The goal of this event is to bring people in the city that may not have been here ever before."
