Titular Korean-Canadian Sandra Oh stars in the upcoming supernatural horror film Umma, directed by Iris K. Shim.

Oh plays the protagonist Amanda, a Korean immigrant who lives with her daughter raising bees on a rural farm away from modern technology. On a seemingly normal day, Amanda receives a visit from her father who brings the cremated ashes of her estranged mother. Amanda is evidently upset about having to deal with her mother's remains. A scene in the trailer reveals Amanda angrily burying her mother, which later leads to the unleashing of a vicious spirit that takes on Amanda's body for itself.

Amanda's character is forced to face her past relationship with her mother while navigating a new life with her daughter. As the events of the film unfold, Amanda's greatest fear of turning into her own mother unravels.

Sandra Oh stars alongside Fivel Stewart, Dermot Mulroney, Odeya Rush, MeeWhat Alana Lee and Tom Yi. Director Shim also wrote the screenplay for the film and Sam Raimi is producing the film under his Raimi Productions banner for Sony Pictures. Raimi is also involved in the upcoming Marvel film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Check out the horror trailer above. Umma arrives in theaters on March 18, 2022.
