The Sanderson Sisters Are Back: The Newest Hocus Pocus 2 Trailer Has Been Released

When it's time to conjure up some spooky fun in your home during the fall season, few movies do it better than Hocus Pocus. A staple on annual Halloween must-see film lists, this classic has become required viewing for many households ahead of the holiday. Now, 29 years after its initial debut, the Sanderson Sisters are sharing more of their bewitching tale in Hocus Pocus 2—and we finally have a peek into what the sequel will entail.
"It's been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters who were executed for practicing witchcraft, and they are looking for revenge," Disney's movie synopsis states. "Now it is up to three high school students to figure out how to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before midnight on All Hallow's Eve."
The sequel will have some familiar faces, with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy reprising their roles as the Sanderson Sisters—three witches who return from the dead to haunt the town of Salem, Mass. There will also be a few new characters added to the mix, including Whitney Peak as Becca, Lilia Buckingham as Cassie, and Belissa Escobedo as Izzy, who awake the sisters by lighting the cursed black flame candle.

Though the film's initial trailer—which was released in late June—didn't give much away about the movie's plot, the second and latest sneak peek provides more context. From the clip, it's clear that the latest installment of the series aims to provide more backstory about the Sanderson Sisters' history and how they came to be so powerful—which isn't covered in the first movie.
In the two minute reel, we even learn how the sisters came upon their infamous spell book—which also appears in the Kenny Ortega-directed 1993 film. It turns out the magical book was given to them as teenagers by a mystical bird that transfigures into an elderwitch, played by Hannah Waddingham. It's also revealed in the last few seconds of the tailer that the beloved undead character, Billy Butcherson (played by Doug Jones), will be back for more nightmarish fun the sequel.
The movie, which was directed by Anne Fletcher, will be available to stream on Disney+ on September 30—and it'll be the perfect way to kick off the bone chilling season ahead.
