San Diego's Beloved Surf Therapy Dog Has Sadly Passed Away

Ricochet had such an impact on people.

San Diego's well-known therapy surfing dog, Ricochet, has sadly crossed over the rainbow bridge. Ricochet was trained as a service dog who taught children with disabilities how to surf, and she also provided emotional support to veterans and active military members with PTSD. Ricochet was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2022.

Ricochet's owner, Judy Fridono, posted the sad news to Instagram.

The post reads in part, "I took her to the E/R and they did an ultrasound of her stomach. It showed a rupture in her liver mass/cancer, which caused inflammation and painful organs, fluid in her stomach and gas in her liver. The aspirate showed a lot of bacteria, which caused sepsis." Fridono said goodbye to her precious dog that same evening.

People are mourning Ricochet's passing, and @ChiChirescuedog comments, "So very sad to see this update. Thank you for sharing her amazing life and adventures with us. She impacted many people during her wonderful life. Sending you love and comfort." @MarcellaTV adds, "What a beautiful life she lived... it is difficult to imagine San Diego’s beautiful waters without her and her healing energy, but we know her spirit and legacy will live on forever."

And @Charliesurfsup notes, "So sorry to hear this news. Ricochet is a legend and made such a difference to so many and touched many lives in such a positive light. You are amazing and a great dog mom. Ricochet will forever be in our hearts. Sending prayers, comfort and strength to you and Cori. Angel Ricochet R.I.P." Follower @Jasperandthebuns adds, "She was an amazing dog. She lived a beautiful life, and we all thank you so much for sharing her experiences with all of us. She has had a real impact on so so many people. She will not be forgotten. Warm thoughts being sent your way.Thank you Ricochet."
