San Angelo chocolate shop spreads to new town

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The lives of Glen Rose, Texas, residents just got a bit sweeter after San Angelo-based Cowboy-Up Chocolates announced that it is opening a new location in the town.

In a Facebook post made on April 10, the minds behind the chocolate store shared that its signature sweets would be available to Glen Rose citizens thanks to a planned second location in the city.

“We’re thrilled to announce that Cowboy Up Chocolates is expanding our frontier and opening a second location in the heart of Glen Rose, Texas!” the store said.

The Glen Rose store will be located at 101 Walnut St. It is expected to open its doors sometime in May 2024.

“Our Glen Rose location will feature all your favorite chocolates, plus some exclusive creations inspired by the local culture and heritage of this beautiful town,” the store said.

Cowboy-Up Chocolates came to downtown San Angelo in 2021, though the business’ origins can be traced back to the kitchen of its founder, James Crowder, in 2003. Crowder’s creations, including classics such as “Concho caramel” and the bacon-brittle hybrid “Squittle,” would be featured in several magazines and TV shows and receive accolades from all across the Lone Star State.

Though the store changed hands in November 2019, the iconic chocolates and candies that brought the business to the forefront of West Texas’ confectionery scene have also brought notable success, enough to warrant a new location.

“Our journey began with the dream of crafting the finest artisan chocolates, and thanks to your unwavering support, we’re bringing our unique blend of flavors and the spirit of the West to more chocolate lovers,” the store said. “Whether you’ve been with us since the beginning or are just discovering the magic of Cowboy Up Chocolates, we invite you to join us for this exciting new chapter.”

Now, with a new store in the works, it looks like Glen Rose’s residents are in for a taste of West Texas.

“Thank you for being part of our journey,” the store said. “We can’t wait to welcome you to our new location in Glen Rose, where the adventure continues and the chocolate is always rich!”

According to Google Maps, the fastest route to Glen Rose from San Angelo is 186 miles long and takes 3 hours and 10 minutes to travel via car.
