Samsung Galaxy Note8 Has Arrived! Here's Everything You Need to Know

From Best Products

Samsung took the wraps off the sleek and waterproof Galaxy Note8. The tech giant's range-topping phablet will be available for pre-order beginning tomorrow, August 24. In the United States, the Note8 will be available in Orchid Gray and Midnight Black. You will be able to order a Samsung Galaxy Note8 from all major carriers in the United States. The device will also be available unlocked from Samsung, Amazon, and other big retailers.

After the battery debacle with the Galaxy Note7 last year, Samsung has left nothing to chance with its successor. In addition to going through a multipoint internal safety check, every Galaxy Note8 battery will also be inspected by an external partner, adding another layer of assurance to the component.

Large Infinity Display

Like all models that preceded it, the latest Galaxy Note iteration is all about offering a blend of a big screen, powerful hardware, and an S Pen stylus. The curved 6.3-inch QHD+ (2,960 by 1,440 pixels) Infinity AMOLED display of the Galaxy Note8 is the largest in the product family today. It's slightly larger than the already massive 6.2-inch screen of the Samsung Galaxy S8+.

Save for its slightly sharper corners, the Samsung Galaxy Note8 looks and feels a lot like the Galaxy S8 family in the metal. The front of the phone is almost entirely dominated by the curved Infinity display — there are barely any bezels to distract you.

The product-range-defining S Pen is more sensitive than ever, offering a whopping 4,096 levels of pressure. It also feels impressively natural to use, courtesy of a tip with the exact same diameter of a standard ballpoint pen. The stylus is waterproof, just like the rest of the Galaxy Note8.

Game-Changing Dual Camera

Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Note8 with two 12 MP camera sensors — one sitting behind a wide-angle lens with a wide f/1.7 aperture, and another equipped with an f/2.4 telephoto lens.

Both camera sensors have optical image stabilization. The dual camera setup also enables photographers to tweak the image object's background blur both before and after capture.

Top-Tier Specs

The Samsung Galaxy Note8 has a long list of top-tier specs, headed by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset and 6 GB of RAM for effortless multitasking. Other key specs of the phablet include 64 GB of expandable memory, gigabit LTE network compatibility, and support for fast wired and wireless charging. The device's battery capacity measures 3,300mAh — a tad less than the 3,400mAh unit of the ill-fated Galaxy Note7.

Like the Galaxy S8 lineup, the Note8 comes with both a fingerprint and an iris scanner. And yes, it has a standard audio jack — you'll also get a pair of excellent AKG earbuds out of the box.

The Note8 runs Android Nougat out of the box, dressed in the tech giant's sweet-looking custom interface. Samsung has added a number of enhancements to the UI, headed by a powerful set of S Pen features. They range from taking notes while the screen is off all the way to sending animated notes.

You'll also be able to simultaneously launch two apps side by side on the Note8 — a feat that isn't possible on the Galaxy S8 family. Of course, the Note8 will also be capable of offering enterprise-grade security via the latest iteration of the Samsung Knox platform.

Being a high-end Galaxy product, the Note8 will hit the shelves with an extensive selection of accessories. They include various cases and covers, a fast wireless charger, a Gear VR headset, and a DeX desktop dock, among others.

Our First Impressions

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are two of the best phones to launch this year. With a bigger screen, a better camera, improved multitasking, and an S Pen stylus, the Galaxy Note8 promises to be even better. Samsung told us that Galaxy Note customers are among the most loyal ones, and after spending a bit of quality time with the latest iteration, we believe they have a lot to be excited about.
