Sam Smith Walks the BRIT Awards Red Carpet in Indescribable Leather Jumpsuit

It's giving '90s cartoon villain, TBH.

Sam Smith just hit the red carpet at the 2023 BRIT Awards, and while the "Unholy" singer's outfit is certainly a must-see, we're not quite sure how to describe it.

Smith is nominated for Song of the Year and Best Pop/ R&B Act, but their black inflate-a-suit is all anyone can talk about right now.

The shiny black leather jumpsuit Smith showed up in features a zipper up the front of the torso, stopping somewhere around the belly button. Underneath appears to be a thick black belt-like panel before each leg expands into something sort of resembling the mash-up of half a heart and a kidney bean, ballooning out to each side. Is it a pocket full of air? Stuffed with packing peanuts? Shaped by a heavy frame? Who knows?!

Black platformed heels complete the leg look, while the arms and shoulders feature a similar, though markedly smaller, mega shoulder pad look, ending in shiny black leather gloves.

They accessorized with a dangly pearl-drop earring on one side and a stud on the other.

Viewers have had a field day with the startling fashion choice. One comment under a photo of the 'fit on MTV's Instagram read, "Something about this is giving mojo Jojo," referring to one of the many villains in Cartoon Network's The Powerpuff Girls, while another thought Smith looked more like a Despicable Me villain.

"Me in the cinema trying to sneak in snacks," another joked.

"this is the unholy thing they were talking abt 🧍🏽💀," commented a third.

"You know when you’re in the swimming pool and hold water in your shorts. Looks like that," someone on Twitter thought.

"When you order Batman off wish," joked another.

In a video shared on Twitter by the award show's official account, the protrusions do in fact seem to be inflated with air, based on the way they move when Smith walks.

This has naturally led to an abundance of questions from the folks at home, including curiosity about how the singer made it to the event's location in the first place and how they plan to sit in their seat once inside.

"Sam smith’s going to look even more ridiculous when [they're] stood there deflating for 20 minutes before [they] can sit in [their] seat," one Tweet read.

Another suggested the outfit was giving a black balloon animal more than anything else, with someone else wondering if Smith or a black swan pool inflatable wore it better.

Hey, we're all for eccentric fashion choices, but we're just not quite sure what to make of this one.
