Sam Smith swept the music world with his debut album In the Lonely Hour, but he'll be singing a very different tune on sophomore album The Thrill Of It All. In an appearance on Ellen, Smith opened up about the lovers who helped bring a new set of songs to life.

After Ellen inquired about his relationship status, Smith admitted that he's in the lonely hour no more. (The singer was recently caught on camera kissing 13 Reasons Why star Brandon Flynn.) And though he spent some of his post-Oscars win resting period "kiss[ing] a few men," he reflected:

"My music is about love, and it's important to just take that time to allow your heart to have it a little bit."

On the subject of his thriving personal life, he added:

"It’s weird bringing out an album and not being single. Because when I brought In the Lonely Hour, I was so lonely. But now I’m singing songs about another guy, but I’m quite happy so it’s quite weird."

And about that Oscars win: Smith landed in mild water after suggesting in his acceptance speech that he was the first gay man to win one such award. He claims the gaffe came from having a liiiitle too much to drink:

"It all started with a hip flask basically of tequila. I wasn’t happy with my performance [of Spectre theme song "Writing's on the Wall"], and we thought we had no chance of winning at all so I was just like, 'Let’s get the party started, let’s have fun.' Then we won and I was like, 'Whoa'."

Listen to Sam Smith in love when The Thrill Of It All drops on November 3.
