Sam Smith Says His Kissing Meme With Brandon Flynn Was a Joke

Sam Smith isn't afraid of a little PDA, or, as anyone who saw his infamous lip lock with Brandon Flynn knows, a lot of PDA. A photo of the couple kissing in London went viral, inspiring Twitter memes and plenty of captions. But Sam has now come forward to say that he wasn't trying to sweep his BF off his feet with a truly romantic gesture; rather, they were both just making a joke with the overzealous kiss.

"It was a joke — as a joke we were attacking each other," Sam said during an interview with BBC Radio 1, according to The Mirror. "I was just joking. I was literally licking his eyeballs. It’s horrendous," he explained, adding that he will have to do something else "to top it."

The singer even added some fodder for any future, nostalgia-fueled memes, saying, "He [Brandon] looks like Ursula sucking the voice out of Ariel. It’s so embarrassing."

Brandon previously let the internet know he was also laughing along with everyone else last month when he left a crying emoji on a parody Instagram account that captioned the infamous photo with the line: "Congratulations to Sam Smith on what looks like his first-ever kiss."

One thing is for sure: Brandon and Sam continue to show that they have a pretty hilarious sense of humor. After all, this is the pair who made things Instagram-official back in December when Brandon posted a photo to social media featuring the couple wearing matching hooded unicorn neck rests. There's bound to be even more funny photos in the future — and fans will be here for it, every step of the way.
