But if they were on Tinder, their profile would read 'Loves Velma, loves McDonalds.'

Sam Smith has to find love in the old-fashioned way (in person) after being banned from some of the most successful dating apps, including Tinder and Hinge.

The "Unholy" singer, who uses they/them pronouns, recently told Canada's Entertainment Tonight reporters that after attempting to swipe right for romance, their efforts were cut short by app security teams who accused the artist of catfishing.

“I never did Grindr. I did Tinder once, I think I got chucked off of Tinder. I got chucked off of Hinge because they thought that I wasn’t me," Smith recalled.

The singer then suggested their exile was warranted, “Well, I didn’t verify my profile, so I should have done that.”

Although in Smith's case, this wasn't an act of catfishing–or the ill intent of posing as someone else online using stolen photographs–so the Grammy award-winning artist isn't all that upset over it.

Even without the online assistance, they told the outlet, “I’ve always been able to date." Smith was previously linked to model Jay Camilleri and, before that, designer François Rocci, as well as actors Andy Newton Lee and Brandon Flynn.

In fact, they said it "would just be silly" for them to be on dating apps and that because they wouldn't be able to take it seriously, their profile would read something like, “Loves Velma, loves McDonalds.”

They also told the outlet that being a proud parent to three pets (a Spanish water dog named Velma and two tortoises: Paprika and Nutmeg) has taught them more about love than any relationship.

"She taught me how to love," Smith fondly recalled of their pup, "I really feel like I don’t think I loved anyone other than my family and friends and stuff… she’s really taught me that.”

So if you're looking to shoot your shot with the pop star, your best bet may be at a dog park or via Instagram DM.
