Salt Lake Rider Shows Off Utah Winter Riding In "Daddy's Buyin"

Salt Lake City is famous for being a destination for skiers in the winter. As it turns out, there is some good riding there as well.

Watch Sebastian Halpern-Reiss tear up the trails in all weather conditions in his new edit Daddy’s Buyin below.

Sebastian is someone who only knows how to send it. Years ago, he went viral for launching to the moon off a knoll on his skis, a clip that still circulates today.

He brings that same energy to the bike. I reached out to Seabass to ask him about the video.

Do you feel like the terrain around SLC helps you as a rider?

"Absolutely, coming from the East Coast into this dustbowl really made me push myself as a rider and learn how to ride in really different conditions. That in addition to the places like I Street Bike Park and the availability of riding pretty much year-round has really helped me to become a more well-rounded rider and stay on top of my game all year long."

Do you feel like the community pushes you to push boundaries?

"Oh yeah, big time. The riding scene in SLC is insane, with some of the fastest guys I’ve ever met and constantly seeing the boys throw down on wild jumps, it really made me want to do the same and become rooted in the core scene. Granted, it took a while to get comfortable on a lot of things out here but everyone always has your back and is hyping you up so it’s easy to push yourself and get out of your comfort zone. I gotta give a lot of credit to all the homies out here for helping me get to where I am! Everyone is always trying to throw down regardless of the trail which is pretty epic."

You were really shredding. Was it hard to get moving quickly in the snow?

"The snow is definitely tough to get comfortable on haha. It’s for sure a learning curve but once you get the hang of it and figure out how much traction you have/where to find traction in the snow, it becomes a lot more bearable. Especially with Justin always screaming at me to go faster or that “snow ain’t nothin to me man”, I just had to give her the beans right away. Snow or no snow, I’m just always stoked to be on the bike!"

Daddy’s Buyin was filmed and edited by Justin Hoelzl, and color-corrected by Michael Chungbin. Justin is the rider who pulled off the crazy night hardtail descent of King Kong. Read about that story below.

I asked Justin about how it felt to be behind the lens instead of in front of it. He gave the following response.

"I love it, it's a cool learning process on how to capture the moment in something and convey how it feels to be there and how fired up I feel and I’m sure how Seabass feels after he slapped some corners. I know how I feel when I'm out with Seabass filming and then try to convey that feeling through editing and music etc, in the video to make someone feel like they are there. I have a ton to learn but that's the fun part!"
