This Salon Chain Is Offering Free Hair Services for Trans and Gender-Nonconforming Clients

Glam + Go is responding to recent political news with a gesture of kindness and inclusivity.

This has been an incredibly stressful week for transgender and gender-nonconforming Americans. After a Department of Health and Human Services memo revealed a plan to define gender by the sex listed on a person's original birth certificate, it became apparent that the Trump administration is looking to roll back Obama-era protections of non-cisgender people under federal civil rights law. As the LGBTQ+ community and its allies gather at rallies and take to social media to voice their opposition to the hateful maneuver, one business is doing what it can to offer services in the spirit of self-care during this especially difficult time.

Glam + Go, a salon known for its blowouts and braids, has announced that it's offering free hairstyling appointments to transgender and gender-nonconforming people for the rest of October. In a press release citing "this week’s troubling news cycle," the brand says it's extending its services at all 10 of its locations, which include seven in New York City, two in Miami, and one in Los Angeles.

"Glam+Go services include 30-minute Signature Blowouts (traditional wash + blow), 15-minute Express Blowouts (starting from dry hair), extensions, cuts, etc.," the press release states, adding that it will be offering customized services to anyone who schedules an appointment using this offer through October 31. Those looking to get their hair done can use the code and "ALLAREWELCOME" when booking on glamandgo.com, which also lists all the location details and service options, such as updos and wig styling.

Although it may not solve the problems transgender, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming citizens currently and continually face, it's a much-needed show of kindness and an opportunity for self-care when the factors that exacerbate anxiety and depression can feel overwhelming.
