Salon’s basket raffle benefits GJHS vocational program

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – With just a little more than a week remaining in the annual basket raffle to support the vocational program at Greater Johnstown High School, the staff of Salon Vizions by Vizza is seeking the community’s help to reach their goal.

“It’s to support the high school and the young adults so they get recognition,” salon owner Kathy Vizza said.

This funding is awarded to vocational students to purchase supplies or equipment for their future careers – literal tools of the trade.

The basket raffle started at the end of April and will be drawn June 1.

Last year, the salon at 1758 Lyter Drive in Lower Yoder Township collected $1,000, and this year’s event has already beat that, with $1,005 raised as of Thursday.

Vizza said she wants to keep going, though, and reach a total of $1,500 to further support the students.

Salon Vizions employee Sydney Armstrong said the response for the 22 baskets this year has been good, especially in the past few days.

Vizza added that the various fundraisers at the business are always an exciting and energy-increasing time and that customers love supporting the students each spring.

Baskets range from wine and snack collections to jewelry, bath bombs, office supplies and more.

Greater Johnstown High School vocational students also contributed to the event with metal flag hangers, a wooden American flag, a bird feeder and similar products.

Armstrong said she’s been really impressed by the baskets this year.

Tickets are three for $5 or 10 for $10.

Salon Vizions is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday; and 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
