Salomon’s Pulsar shoes are designed for cushioning and comfort on the trail. The shoes feature Salomon’s Energy Blade technology, a plate in the sole that’s designed to increase the springiness of each step. The EVA midsole adds to the springiness of the shoe, and the outsole features grippy lugs to provide stability and a secure step while on the trail.

The shoes are comfortably cushioned, but they feature a 6mm drop, which is on the lower end. Drop refers to the difference in cushioning from the back of the shoe to the front, and a lower drop is generally seen as better for runners who land on the middle or front of their foot. These shoes also utilize Salomon’s unique lacing system, consisting of a single lace that you pull to tighten. It’s a convenient feature that also reduces the risk of tripping over loose laces.

Shoppers were impressed with the versatility and performance on trails, with one writing that the shoes are “perfect for both moderate trails and asphalt.” Another wrote that the “traction lugs are just deep enough to provide good grip without feeling knobby under foot.” Similarly, another person who purchased the shoes wrote, “I bought this trailshoe about a month ago and I absolutely love it. I have worn it on a variety of trails in every condition from mud to snow and it does very well in all. I might order a second pair just to keep for the future.”

In addition to performance, comfort was a key selling point for shoppers, with one writing that the shoe is “very soft and comfortable,” and another similarly noting that the shoes are “comfortable right out of the box.”

Even if you’re not a runner, a pair of trail running shoes can be a great option for hiking, particularly for those who prefer a lightweight sneaker to a bulky boot. Consider picking up this top-rated Salomon shoe for over $40 off.
