Salmonella concerns have prompted the voluntary recall of a dog food sold exclusively at Tractor Supply Co. stores.

TFP Nutrition announced Saturday that it was recalling some 50-pound bags of its Retriever All Life Stages Mini Chunk Chicken Recipe Dry Dog Food after a sample of the food tested positive for salmonella. So far, no human or canine illnesses have been linked to the recalled food, the company said in its news release.

The recalled Retriever food was distributed to Tractor Supply Co. locations in 10 states: Arkansas, Arizona, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah.

To check if your food is included in the recall, look at the back of your bag to find the production codes, which are located near the bottom. Here are the codes for the recalled food:

  • BEST BY 10 2024 3277 TFP

  • BEST BY 10 2024 3278 TFP

TFP Nutrition manufactured the food Oct. 4 and 5 at its Nacogdoches, Texas, plant. A test from the Office of the Texas State Chemist revealed salmonella, the company said. If you have any of the recalled food, dispose of it right away.

In dogs, salmonella can cause vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), fever, lethargy, lack of appetite, and abdominal pain. They can also carry the bacteria and infect other animals—including us—without showing symptoms.

Humans with salmonella poisoning may experience vomiting, diarrhea, cramps, fever, and, in rarer cases, more serious illnesses.

Customers unsure if their dogs' food is part of the recall or who want a refund can call  (1-800) 330-3048 or visit tfpnutrition.com/recall. Tractor Supply Co. will also accept returns.
