Salma Hayek arrived at Balenciaga’s fall 2024 runway show in Los Angeles on Saturday, channeling Barbiecore inspiration for her accessories. The actress wore a full look from the brand, including a black asymmetric neckline, three-quarter-length sleeve midi dress paired with an hourglass bag, pink pointy-toe pumps and square-frame sunglasses.

WWD characterized Balenciaga’s show as a send-up of L.A. wellness culture, with taut and toned models in leggings, shorts, sweats and 10XL sneakers, toting Erewhon bags, cell phones, water bottles and coffee cups as if they’d just been paparazzi snapped coming out of Barry’s Bootcamp.

The runway show was held on Windsor Street, which has the most direct view of the famous Hollywood sign.

Since the summer of 2022 when the trailer for Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” movie dropped, Barbiecore has swept the fashion industry. The trend is characterized by pink hairstyles, pink interior design and a wardrobe full of bright colors. “Barbie” was a box office success and made history as the first film solely by a woman director to gross more than $1 billion.

Balenciaga is making a major push in the U.S. going into 2024. The brand has doubled its presence on Rodeo Drive and opened a two-story venue at South Coast Plaza.

Since Balenciaga’s current creative director, Demna, arrived at the helm of the Kering-owned fashion brand in 2015, followed by current chief executive officer Cédric Charbit a year later, Balenciaga has expanded its retail presence in America from 15 directly operated stores to more than 50 locations and counting.

The Los Angeles show signified the continued importance of the U.S. to Balenciaga’s business. In addition to Hayek, celebrities attending included Kim Kardashian, Nicole Kidman, Samara Weaving, Froy Gutierrez, Kendall Jenner, Brooklyn Beckham, Nicola Peltz and Teyana Taylor.
