Sakuna: Of Rice And Ruin Is Getting An Anime Adaptation

Edelweiss’ Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin was a bit of a hit when it was released on PC, PS4, and Nintendo Switch a couple of years ago, selling over a million copies. It was praised for its story and unique art style, and evidently that was on the money, as it’s getting adapted into an anime series.
Toho Animation announced that a Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin anime adaptation is in the works. The story will be based on the story of the game, in which harvest goddess Sakuna is sent to a demon-infested island to create a safe haven for humans who accidentally entered the heavens.
The series is being developed by P.A. Works, the animation studio behind series like Angel Beats!, Sakura Quest, Uma Musume Pretty Derby, and many more. Many of the voice actors from the game will be returning to voice their respective characters in the anime — you can see the full announced cast list below, courtesy of Gematsu:

The series is set to air sometime in 2024, although an exact date has not yet been announced. More information will be revealed later in the month, during AnimeJapan 2024.
Anime adaptations of video games aren’t particularly uncommon, and have been around for quite some time. Pokémon is probably the biggest example, being the biggest media franchise in history, but other game series like Persona and Ace Attorney have been adapted into anime, too.
Of course, it’s not always an easy transition from interactive media to visual media. We’ve previously listed out some of the worst anime based on video games, and while none of them are exceptionally bad, most of them fail to justify their existence.
