Sadie Sink Talks About Confidence, Homework, and Fashion at the Kate Spade Fashion Show

Kate Spade is one of the most ubiquitous American fashion brands of all time, known for their colorful bags and accessories worn by women of all different generations. For their fall 2019 show, creative director Nicola Glass wanted to let that legacy shine. In an all pink room, models wore silk and knit bright colored dresses, glittery white tights, and fun printed jackets that looked like leopard print but were actually flowers.

"We're known for prints, but this season is really about rich, vibrant, solid colors and then having fun with the accessories like sparkly tights and all the models have a mood ring on," Glass told Teen Vogue. "I wanted there to be this polished ease to [the collection], to feel quite sprouted with youthfulness to it, but definitely this soft glamour as well."

No one better illustrates this particular youthfulness than Kate Spade campaign star Sadie Sink, who just finished filming “Stranger Things” season three, sitting front row dressed in lilac jumper and platforms.

Sink is best known for her role as Max in Netflix's "Stranger Things," but in the last year, she's been slowly making herself known in the fashion world, walking in the Miu Miu show and starring in major campaigns. For Kate Spade, she stars alongside actresses Kiki Layne and Julia Garner in a campaign all about "Being Your Own Heroine," a sentiment that Sink takes to heart.

"It's all about finding what you're passionate about, and finding what movements speak to you," she tells me. "I'm passionate about encouraging girls to be confident in their own skin. It's so easy to be insecure about your looks, or if you're wearing the right clothes, or your hair and makeup. And I think it's just so important to say true to who you are."

Playing Max, a video-game loving badass, has been an embodiment of this for her. She says that Stranger Things fans to tell her how Max's confidence in her own sense of style has inspired them.

"I'm 16, and I'm still self-conscious. Everyone is at this age. So, just to hear that someone inspired by my character, is such a big deal," says Sink.

While her life may seem different from your average 16-year-old, Sink does still have some of the same responsibilities of any teen, like for instance, doing homework. After the Kate Spade show, Sink tells me she needs to go do just that.

"I need to go home and do some schoolwork after this," she says, laughing. "ACTs, SATs, I have all of it."
