Sabrina Carpenter's Being Called Out for a "Cringe" April Fools Joke About Being Pregnant

It simply wouldn't be April Fools without a celebrity vaguely offending everyone, and this year Sabrina Carpenter took up the mantle by telling her Salt Lake City audience that she's pregnant. Direct quote: "I'm pregnant happy April Fool's Day."

Comments on this post are quite the journey, but people were quick to point out the potential insensitivity, with one person saying "Ooof, that’s some bad PR team she has. Who told her this was a good idea? Incredibly insensitive to people who can’t get pregnant, have had miscarriages, or how about women currently pregnant but at high risk for losing the baby? Why are people so dumb?!"

Other comments range from "Gross. This isn’t it," to "the silence when she said it 😭," to "This is so insensitive to the people who can’t get pregnant," to "One of the worst april fools jokes out there," to "this is so cringy," to "I thought literally everyone knew this was not an okay April fools joke?"

Celebrities have gotten backlash for pregnancy-related April Fool's jokes in the past, perhaps most notably Justin and Hailey Bieber. Justin ended up releasing a lengthy apology on Instagram, writing in part "There’s always gonna be people offended, there’s also people who don’t take jokes very well, I am a prankster and it was APRIL FOOLS. I didn’t at all mean to be insensitive to people who can’t have children. A lot of people I know, their first go to prank on April fools is telling their parents they are pregnant to get a big reaction. But I will apologize anyway and take responsibility and say sorry to people who were offended."
