Saas Fee: restaurants
On the mountain
Budget
Brittaniahutte is a 15-minute walk from the top of the Egginerjoch T-bar, but the trek is worth it for the ambience of a real mountain refuge and the stunning views. Food is simple (soups, pasta, sausages, rösti) and cheap by Swiss standards.
Mid-range
Gletschergrotte, just off to the left of the piste that runs from Spielboden back down to the village, is a tiny atmospheric hut with a small terrace. It serves good burgers and fabulous röstis, and prides itself on the quality of its home‑made cakes and desserts.
Expensive
Spielboden, at the top of the gondola of the same name, is run by the Fletschorn hotel and serves food worthy of top mountain restaurants in more pricey resorts. It has a Michelin Bib Gourmand and a 14/20 score in the Gault‑Millau guide. The interior is bright, woody and modern, and the terrace has stunning views. Delicious soups include lobster bisque and cheese soup with croutons. There’s linguine with truffles and a spag bol made with rib-eye beef, plus special kids’ dishes too.
In the resort
Budget
Pizzeria Boccalino serves good value and quality pizza and pasta in the heart of town. The spaghetti with clams is very popular, and the service in the simple, wooden-walled dining room is efficient.
Mid-range
A 10-minute walk through the woods, Waldhüs Bodmen has a glass wall in the dining room through which you can see rabbits, guinea pigs, llamas and even a camel. The hearty food includes pork chops served in a pot with bacon and mushroom sauce, fondues, pasta and rösti.
Expensive
The Michelin-starred Fletschhorn hotel restaurant has an amazing wine cellar with 45,000 bottles in stock. There are four tasting menu options, including the fish-themed “From Lake to Sea”, plus an extensive à la carte menu.
