Ryan Sheckler Talks Alcohol Abuse, Overcoming Adversity, Being a Dad and More on Tony Hawk's Podcast (Video)

On the heels of his Lifer video part and Rolling Away documentary, Ryan Sheckler sits down on the Hawk vs. Wolf podcast to cover everything from his past alcohol abuse, overcoming adversity through the years, becoming a dad and so much more.

These three go way back and have stories for days (the story about Tony showing up to Sheckler's 6th birthday is amazing), but Ryan really gets personal here, which I can respect.

Sheckler has had such a decorated career in skateboarding. From his first push to now, he's dealt with an unreasonable amount of hate, earned his W's, battled some serious battles and has ultimately pushed skateboarding for decades and decades.

There was a comment on YouTube that hit pretty hard:

"I'm pretty honest about the fact that, as a kid learning to skate around the time Ryan was really blowing up, I hated on the dude all the time with my friends out of pure jealousy. Seemed like Ryan was living the sort of life we all dreamed and was close in age to us & for some reason that really bugged a lot of us. We were dumb kids and we had no real idea what the reality of the situation was. Now as an adult and having learned about the shit Ryan was put through and how he's pulled himself back up into a better place I have so much respect for the guy & to see him doing well is great."

I'd say that sums it all up pretty well. Nobody knew what was going on behind the scenes, but Sheckler has proved time and time again that he has what it takes to overcome adversity and keep pushing.

Great episode. Press play and dive in.
